Where has the balance column gone? (Q Mac)

The Balance column on my Quicken transactions has disappeared.

Make sure you are selecting the actual account in the sidebar, and the balance column should reappear.
If you select an account grouping, the Balance column is not displayed as it doesn't make sense with combined accounts.

To add a little to John's answer: you may not see the the individual account in the sidebar if the group is collapsed. Hover your cursor of the name in the sidebar. If you see a > icon, then the group is collapsed. Click it and it will change to a v icon and the account(s) within the group will appear. This can be especially confusing if, for example, if you account name is "Checking" and it is the only account in the "Checking" group register.
