Private stock now publicly traded

I have stock that we bought when it was an initial private offering. I recorded the purchase in a manual stock register. It is now publicly traded but when I try to add the ticker symbol it adds the stock as a new stock. How do I add the new stock ticker and get updated quotes without having to redo the register

• Find the manually created security (likely without a ticker symbol).
• Click Edit next to the security name.

2. Add the Ticker Symbol

• In the Edit Security Details window:
• Enter the official ticker symbol now that the stock is publicly traded.
• Check the box for Download Quotes if you want Quicken to update prices automatically.

⚠️ If you enter the ticker symbol directly when adding a new security, Quicken may treat it as a separate stock. Instead, update the existing manual entry to preserve your transaction history.

3. Enable Online Updates

• After adding the ticker, Quicken will begin downloading:
• Daily price updates
• News and performance data
• Brokerage transactions (if your account supports it)

4. Verify Holdings and Cost Basis

• Double-check that your original purchase(s) are still correctly reflected.
• If you received shares through a grant or early investment, ensure the cost basis is accurate.

5. Optional: Merge Duplicate Securities

• If Quicken created a new entry when you added the ticker, you can:
• Delete the new one (if it has no transactions), or
• Use the Corporate Actions tool to merge or adjust holdings.
