How to move transactions from an account in older file to a new account created in a new file?

I just want some simple instructions in how to move transactions I have in older file to a new account in a new file.

I tried the methods suggested of going to the account in the old file and selecting the transaction or all transactions then going to the gear icon selecting copy transactions. When you go to the gear icon there is no "copy transactions" entry. I then right click and then I get the "copy transactions" entry. I click on it but nothing happens. I then open the file and try to paste what I thought was the copied transactions, but paste entry is not there. I also tried the file export. I was able to export the data and saved it. However, when I tried to imported to the file account it messed up all my other accounts with duplicate entries, etc.

Hopefully, someone has a better suggestion.

Step 1 – Open Your Old File

1. Open Quicken.
2. Go to File > Open Quicken File and select your old file.

Step 2 – Export Transactions

1. Go to the account you want to move transactions from.
2. Click the gear icon (Account Actions) in the upper-right corner of the register.
3. Choose Export to QIF file (Quicken Interchange Format).
4. Save the file somewhere you can find it like the Desktop.
   • Give it a name like Checking.qif.

(Depending on your version of Quicken you may not see Export to QIF file in the account’s gear menu. If that is the case, try this: Export from File Menu in Windows Quicken Classic

1. Open the old file.
2. Go to File > File Export > QIF File.
   • If you don’t see this, type Ctrl+Shift+Z and look for it in the hidden menus.
3. Choose Transactions and select the account.
4. Save the .QIF file.

Then import into your new file using File > File Import > QIF File.

If your version really doesn’t allow QIF export anymore then try this.

1. In the old file, open the account register.
2. Select all transactions (click in the register, press Ctrl+A).
3. Right-click and choose Copy Transactions (or use the Edit > Copy menu).
4. Switch to your new file → open the new account register.
5. Right-click and choose Paste Transactions.)

Step 3 – Open Your New File

1. In Quicken, go to File > New Quicken File (or open your already-created new file).
2. Set up your new account(s) if you haven’t yet (e.g., Checking, Savings).

Step 4 – Import Transactions

1. Go File > File Import > QIF File.
2. Browse to the QIF file you exported.
3. Under Quicken Account to Import into, select the account you created in the new file.
4. Click OK to import.

Step 5 – Clean Up

• Review the transactions in the new account.
• Delete duplicates if necessary.
• Reconcile if you were reconciled in the old file.
