When I opened Quicken the usual screen did not come up. Instead a screen with 7 large boxes appeared. What is going on?

What you’re seeing is Quicken’s new “Home” (or Dashboard) view that has been rolling out in recent versions. Instead of taking you straight into your registers or the old familiar home screen, it opens a page with big tiles (boxes) that summarize things like:

    • Spending by category
    • Income vs. expenses
    • Bills & income reminders
    • Net worth
    • Accounts list
    • Recent transactions

I believe Quicken changed the default startup view to this tile-based dashboard for some users after updates.

To get back to your usual screen:

    1. At the very top of Quicken, click View in the menu.
    2. Select Tabs to show → make sure Home, Spending, Bills, Investing, etc. are checked.
    3. Then click on the tab (usually Home → Classic View) that you prefer.
    4. To make it your default, go to Edit → Preferences → Startup, and set On Startup open to: the page you want, your favorite account register such as checking, savings etc.

That way, the next time you open Quicken it will skip the new 7-tile dashboard and go straight to your normal screen.
