Update cash balance in brokerage account Quicken Mac
I am running the latest version of Quicken for Mac. I ran Q for Windows for over 25 years . I transferred my data to Quicken for Mac. One of my brokerage accounts cash balance was off significantly off going back over 10 years.
On Q for Windows it was easy to amend the cash balance as of a certain date . I prefer not to input a transaction to adjust balance as of a certain date . I was reading on line for Q for Mac to adjust as follows the " cash balance "
"you can also use the "Update Cash Balance" or "Adjust cash balance" option via the gear icon in the account window, but you must be in the account's register view for it to appear. " The gear does not provide an option to " Update Cash Balance". Another note indicated you need to be in " Transactions " which I was , however no option to " Update Cash Balance "
Any suggestions in lieu of " manually " entering a transaction ?

The "Adjust Account Balance" command is in the Accounts menu in the menu bar, but all it's going to do is add a transaction to the register on the specified date adjusting the balance. It's a little bit easier than just entering the transaction yourself since it will figure out the transaction amount for you, but that's really the only advantage to it.
I strongly recommend choosing the "Balance Adjustment" option and not "Live Balance Adjustment" - live transactions can get changed anytime Quicken feels like it so having those in your account is just asking for future trouble IMO.

Hi Jon:
Since I am new to Quicken for Mac , used Quicken for Windows for over 25 years . Can you let me know how to perform this step in Quicken for Mac? .
Also do you prefer Q for Mac vs Q for Windows ?
Thank you

I already told you - it's in the Accounts menu in the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Hi Jon:
Thank you I was able to adjust the balance of the cash balance in the brokerage account .
If you ran Quicken for Windows in the past and are running Quicken for Mac understand Q for Windows is more robust , which one do you prefer ?
Thank you

I prefer native Mac apps. While Quicken Windows has some features missing from Quicken Mac, there's nothing that I need badly enough to jump through the hoops required to run it on a Mac.
