Disable Activate One Step Update Popup Window
I have been using Quicken Classic for a long time. I have my accounts set up that I do not use One Step Update. I go to my bank(s) to download transactions every time. This has been set up and working properly for me for a long time.
Recently with one of the last updates (I believe), there's been a very annoying change that I can't figure out how to fix. I download transactions as I always have, but now after Quicken imports the file, I get a popup window asking me about Activating One Step Update. It started with only one of my bank downloads, but now has expanded to several more and is very annoying.
The options on the popup window are (1) Yes, activate One Step Update… or (2) No, do not activate One Step Update… and then at the bottom of the window after I make a selection to (1) Close or (2) Cancel.
Every time the popup window comes up, I have been clicking "No" and then have tried both "Close" and "Cancel" but to no avail. The popup window keeps coming up every time I download from my financial institution. And now it's happening on more than one bank which is why I'm reaching out for help.
Can someone please help fix this. 1) my accounts are setup correctly for me downloading transactions and I haven't made any changes. 2) the 'Activate One Step Update' popup started recently all on its own, I think after an update with one of my accounts (Scotiabank). 3) the popup has now started to show up when downloading from RBC. 4) no matter what I select for "NO" and then either 'Close' or 'Cancel', the popup asking about one step update keeps appearing after I download transactions.
Quicken Classic Business & Personal V. R64.31 Build 27.1.64.31 Canada on Windows 10 Enterprise
Thanks for any help can be provided.

A number of American and even some Canadian banks have recently converted their systems and stopped downloading QFX files, resulting in CC-885 download errors. Other banks maybe are in the process of converting.
The only way to continue downloading transactions is to enable One Step Update.
Yes, the first time you download using OSU after (re-)activating the account for downloading, you will get a download containing 60 - 90 days' worth of old transactions and you will have to cleanup those duplicates.
I recommend you turn off "automatically accept downloaded transactions" before you do that. This way you can delete duplicate downloaded transactions from the Downloaded Transactions tab area before they hit your register and cause a mess.
Subsequent OSU downloads will only contain new, not previously downloaded transactions.0 -
Thank you for your reply, however I am not getting any download errors. I am able to download QFX files no problems or issues at all. (Side note, interesting to find out the direction banks are moving, I will make note of that)
I will not be using One Step Update. I am receiving a popup window to activate. I want to stop that popup from popping up.
Any way to disable the One Step Update activation popup?

Somebody from Quicken will have to chime in here.
But I can see the future direction the banks are heading to.
Don't be surprised when one of these days your downloaded QFX file will refuse to import into Quicken with a CC-885 error … that's because the bank pulled the plug and told Quicken and Intuit to update the bank's profile record in Quicken and remove support for QFX files.IMHO, better to begin using OSU now. It works so much better and I can download all my banks' transactions in one execution of OSU instead of having to log on to each bank and manually download QFX files, one bank at a time.

I have this same issue and it's very annoying. And no, none of my banks appear to be "heading in this direction," nor do I want them to.
The problem with One Step Update is that it absolves you of the need to go look at your online banking activity daily. This means that a pending, potentially fraudulent charge, will go all the way to completion without your noticing it while it's still just an authorization and not a posted charge. I have caught quite a few fraudulent credit card charges this way, shortly after they were authorized.
It's not just fraudulent charges — it's discovering errors (that you might have made) before they become real problems, before the charge or transfer posts. It's seeing the online check registers and remembering to download cleared check images for verification should you be audited by the IRS.
This whole idea that you can delegate your bookkeeping responsibilities to brainless software is just asking for trouble and automating your downloads with OSU is a great way to do that. And if you are going to go online with your bank anyway, on a daily basis, then OSU offers zero timesaving benefit.
