Traveling Overseas

Hi, does anyone have experience with Quicken outside of the country? Does the program have any built-in security features that might lock me out if it detects my IP address is in Egypt? I still wanna use Q to track my expenses, which will be a lot of cash transactions. I have a VPN if needed.

thanks

    Hello @Adience,

Thank you for posing this question.

Yes, Quicken does have built-in security features that detect such things, like IP address changes and location differences. Yes, in some cases, this can cause you to get locked out.

Sometimes a VPN can resolve the issue if it shows you having a U.S. IP address. However, this is not always the case, because frequent IP address changes can also trigger security measures.

I would say, try it… If you get locked out, contact Quicken Support, and they can get you back in.

    Hope this helps.

Try taking your laptop completely offline before you start Quicken.
In Control Panel / Settings / Network

    • turn on Airplane Mode
    • disable Network
    • turn off WiFi
    • and unplug the Ethernet cable

If Quicken, during startup, detects any network connectivity it will attempt to "call home" and fail to start if unsuccessful.
While offline, do not start any function which requires Internet access, e.g., One Step Update, Quotes updates, etc.

Try going offline at home first, before you travel.
    Enjoy your trip.

If it were me, I would make contingency plans for alternate ways to track your finances should Quicken not be accessible while on your trip.

I travel internationally on a regular basis and sometimes I am away for a month. The only time I use Quicken is when I am away that long and I use Nord VPN to connect to a US server and so far have had no issues. For shorter trips I don't bother using Quicken.
