After each of the last three software updates, when first opening Quicken, it loads an incorrect data file, and I can't seem to find and open the correct file. This morning, when opening Quicken, it went to the correct file! What's happening?

    Hello @kenkud,

Thank you for sharing your experience and reporting this issue you are running into.

I have not experienced the same behavior in my own Quicken after recent updates. I have some follow-up questions that will hopefully help us to narrow down what could be happening here.

    • How are you opening Quicken?
      • Are you using the red square application icon, or a more rectangular icon that looks like a sheet of paper with the corner folded down? Screenshot 2026-01-05 at 12.36.29 PM.png
    • Where is your data file located?
      • You can see this by going to File. The first file listed at the bottom of the menu shows the file location.
        • The default location for a Quicken data file is C:>Users>username>Documents>Quicken, and this is where we recommend keeping it.
    • Is your data file being synced/backed up by any third-party services like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Blackblaze?
      • We do not recommend allowing services like this to access the data file you are actively using, as it can damage the file.
    • Approximately how long do you think this issue has been happening?
      • Restoring a backup could be a viable troubleshooting option if it hasn't been more than 2-3 months.

Let me know what you find!
