Check Number field changes my entries.

I have several custom entries that I use for the 'Check Number' field in my Checking account in Quicken Classic Deluxe.
One that I use often is 'DDEP' to denote Direct Deposits - I'm retired and this is how I receive my pensions and Social Security.
The problem is, that after closing the program, Quicken will change this entry from 'DDEP' to 'DDEPúÿÿÿ', adding random characters to it.
I can use Find and Replace to correct these entries, but they always return.
Why?

I've run Validate and Repair but it never finds anything.

Searching the Community for discussions mentioning "úÿÿÿ" shows a few old discussions.
All of them indicate that Validate and Supervalidate don't know how to fix this table corruption issue.
Some of them mention Sync as a possible cause, so … have you tried turning off Sync and Resetting Sync?

As a workaround, how about using "DEP" (Deposit) instead? Try Edit / Find/Replace to change those transactions to just DEP

How to reset Sync to Cloud
• Log out of your mobile app, then do this on your desktop / laptop:
• Go to Edit / Preferences / Mobile and Web
• Click the "Reset your cloud data" link and follow the instructions until it is complete.
• Sync your desktop file to the cloud
• Now log back into your mobile app

How to turn off Sync to Cloud for the current data file
• Go to Edit / Preferences / Mobile and Web
• Change the Sync radio button and set it to OFF
