I reloaded a previous file used in 2017. As soon as it was done I got a screen that said I can no longer use 2017. I called the help line and explained the problem. They went through the usual, then said that if I want my file back, I had to send them money and buy the current version. If I don't send money, and purchase the new version, then I can't have my file. I'm sure most would agree it's ransom to get MY file back. When I bought 2017, although it states there could be a limit on how long it would be supported, there was no language about keeping my file if I didn't pay for an upgrade. It's obvious that when I tried to load a previous backup file, that it checks the version with your server, flags it as 2017, and sends the splash screen that I am required to send money for the upgrade. The first time I try to open the file, I can see my checkbook register for a moment, then it goes to the pay screen. Also, the file is further crippled as I can see that the file is a few KB's larger which shows you have added characters to the file. This is also evident because attempting to open the file again, the pay screen comes up immediately. I have numerous supporting screen shots, and videos.
It is sad that as a long time user of quicken, (I myself, go back to the DOS days), that I am treated as a nothing more than a source of cash, even if it means hijacking my personal financial data file, which I need.
