Is One Step Update Feature Dead?

Three days ago, I started having a problem running one step update. The update starts, then locks up Quicken to the point where I need to shut it down using the Task Manager. Tech support wasn't much help so I am wondering if the one step update feature is no longer available. My subscription is coming up for renewal, therefore, it is starting to look as though need to hunt for an alternative to Quicken.

Also, the Cloud Sync. feature stopped working as well. It locks up the Quicken operation.

Thank you for reporting the issues you are running into.

The One Step Update is not a "dead" feature, and is still used to update accounts. Same thing with the cloud sync; it has not been disabled from our end. If your Quicken is locking up, I think it may be specific to your system. I have some follow-up questions for you.

Is the update getting hung up on one specific financial institution?
Were there any significant changes to your system before this issue began?
- Windows updates, Quicken updates, etc.
Are you running a VPN, Firewall, or Antivirus?
- If so, try temporarily disabling it.
Where is your data file located?
- You can see this from the File menu. Go to File, and the first file listed near the bottom of the menu is the file you are currently in. The file pathway will be listed there, and that's what we are looking for.
Is your file being backed up/synced with any third-party services like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive?

Alyssa, thank you for responding to my post. Tech support confirmed for me the problem is internal with Quicken and they are working on the problem. There is a community post by Quicken that acknowledged the issue with One Step Update and stated there is no ETA to the fix.
One Step Update had been working for me for months, as well as cloud sync, without me making any changes to my system.
The cloud I use for sync is Quicken’s cloud.

I had given up on One Step Update. I just update transactions one account at a time.

Quicken staff and management should be ASHAMED of how they've buried this issue that all Quicken Classic users are faced with. There's no mention of an ETA or any work being done to address this known bug during the last year or more. One Step Update was a key feature of Quicken.

because it always results in CC-800 errors and I have to deactivate and reactivate all my accounts, I have resorted to simply updating accounts one at a time which works. But today I accidentally used One Step Update and of course all my account got the CC-800 error and need to be deactivated and reactivated again :( I have over 20 accounts in QUicken.

If you aren't going to fix One Step Update CC-800 bug you should damn well remove the One Step update from the menu in Quicken classic!

As noted in another thread, not all Quicken Classic users are experiencing this. It works fine for me. Should it be fixed? Yes, of course. Should the feature be removed? Please, no.

For anyone who needs it, I believe this is the Community Alert @Steve Di. is referring to.

There is also an open escalation ticket for the CC-800 issue. However, in many cases, this is found to be caused by the way the file is being used. For example, if you are using one data file on two computers, if you are restoring backups, and if you are opening Quicken from a file rather than using the application icon, all of these can be reasons this error is showing up.

If you want to troubleshoot either of these issues, let us know and we can provide some steps to try.

Can I use One Step Update (OSU) for just my Fidelity Investment IRA without any impact on my banking accounts? In other words, I would like to run OSU on my Fidelity Account, but not my banking accounts?

I tried doing this today, but the first time I ran it Quicken Froze-up and I had to use Task Manager to close Quicken. This is also when I learned that although I frequently back-up Quicken to a separate external hard drive, without my realizing it Quicken was sending backups automatically to OneDrive's Cloud. And here I had even taken steps, I think, to try to make sure Quicken's Cloud wasn't being used for backups.

Anyway, once I recovered my correct banking account backups from my hard drive, I ran OSU again trying all out to include only my Fidelity Investment IRA file. This second time it did seem to reasonably come close to exacting my IRA in total. However, at least two of my primarily used banking accounts were again significantly off. The primary checking account was low by around $7K, and the primary savings account was off by over $100K. Therefore, I had to go back to my backup file to get correct banking account information, which of course restored my much too low Fidelity Investment IRA total value.

I do not use Quicken to go online with my banking accounts, or at least I don't want to. I use Bill & Income Reminders to Manage Bills and Income. Credit and Debit card usage, Cash purchases/payments, Checks, etc. are manually entered in Quicken. I use the Bill and Income Reminder's Manage Bills and Income feature for known, scheduled recuring transactions. I also use the Account Reconciliation Feature monthly to balance and verify account entries against their respective monthly banking statements.

I am using Quicken Classic Deluxe, Version R66.18, Build 27.1.66.18 with Windows 11 Enterprise.

I'd love it if I could run One Step Update just on the Fidelity Investment Account in Quicken without any effect on my numerous Quicken included banking accounts. Is it possible to do this? If so, what am I doing wrong? Help please. I hope I am asking for help in the right place and in the correct way. Thank you!

OSU is intended to update all your accounts. But it's easy to just update one financial institution's account(s).

In the upper right corner of your Fidelity register, click the lightning bolt. That will just update Fidelity.

If you don't see the lightning bolt, click the gear and then customize action bar to include Update Transactions.

@Stoney_in_FL You can open the OSU Settings and select the online enabled accounts that you want to use for OSU.

Thanks, Snorkle, for your comment. When I select OSU, I have one online bank account that Quicken says I need to add back in (CC-800 Error). It's a HELOC account that has a zero balance. OSU gives instructions to FIX NOW, which means I need to cancel OSU and add the HELOC item back into Quicken. OSU also gives instructions allowing me to continue without adding the HELOC account to the "other selected accounts." I believe this is what I tried. I clicked the continue button, and, as I recall, Quicken immediately started updating all of my Quicken Accounts, i.e., I don't recall getting an opportunity to unselect any accounts. Again, I don't want to run OSU on my bank accounts, just my Investment Accounts.

I note that if I select "Schedule Updates" under Quicken TOOLS, I see the opportunity to select the accounts I wish to update. It shows two bank accounts and my Fidelity Investment account. Is this my only opportunity to select which accounts I want to update?

If I correct the CC-800 error by adding the HELOC account, then if I select OSU from Tools, will it give me the opportunity to select the accounts I want updated, or will it just automatically start to update everything, and thereby once again mess up my bank accounts?

Or would you suggest that I just use the Schedule updates, which allows me to select only the Fidelity account?

Rocket J Squirrel - Thank you very much. This worked perfectly. I'd still like to know if One Step Update will ask which accounts I want to update if I add the HELOC account back in to eliminate the CC-800 error. Again, I'd hate to fix this error and then have OSU start updating my bank accounts without my having a chance to select just my Fidelity Account or unselect all banking accounts.
