VyStar download requesting SMS code every day
This issue started about a week ago after restoring a backup datafile. Now, for the first download of the day from Vystar, it always requests an SMS code for authorization. Is there a way to stop this nuisance extra step? Prior to the restore, Vystar didn't seek daily authorization. It only requests once per day, for the first download.
Is this common behavior for Vystar downloads now?

Hi @leishirsute,
Thank you for sharing those details with us. I'll be happy to help you to troubleshoot this issue.
Before we start troubleshooting the issue, I would like to know a couple of things:
- Have you seen any recent changes on the Vystar website?
- Are you prompted to get an SMS when signing in to the Vystar website?
To troubleshoot the issue, you can try to reset the connection by deactivating and reactivating the Vystar accounts (please save a backup before making any changes):
- 1. Select the Tools menu and select Account List....
- 2. In the Account List, select the account you want to deactivate, and then click Edit.
- 3. In the Account Details window, click the Online Services tab.
- 4. Click Deactivate next to the service you want to disable.
- 5. Click Yes to the message confirming if you want to disable this service.
- 6. Click OK to the confirmation message
- Revoke Quicken’s third-party access from your Vystar Investments account on their website.
- Go to Tools > Add Account.
- Select the bank for the deactivated account(s). If prompted, select the connection method.
- Enter your credentials and click Connect.
- When the list of located accounts appears, choose LINK next to each account you want to reactivate.
- Click Next then Done on the last prompt.
These steps refresh your connection and often clear up download problems.
I’ll be waiting for your response so we can continue working on this with you.

- Have you seen any recent changes on the Vystar website?
Not really.
- Are you prompted to get an SMS when signing in to the Vystar website?
Yes. Everytime. That's been the case for almost a year. That didn't require Quicken to need an SMS code every day. However, both the website login and Quicken are behaving similarly now, such that the first login of the day to Vystar and a login several hours later requires an SMS code. I was hoping Quicken saved cookies or authentication to bypass this requirement.
I am assuming that the Revoke Quicken instructions for Fidelity you gave in the deactivate section don't apply to Vystar.
I have deactivated and reactivated Vystar successfully. The deactivate/reactive process in Quicken triggered 2 SMS code authentications. I have 3 Vystar accounts.
The issue is not a huge impact. Just an aggravation. Also, the option is given to receive the code by email, text, for phone call. So, it's not a requirement that my phone be nearby.

Hi @leishirsute,
Thank you for answering those questions. I appreciate the additional details.
Yes, it also applies to VyStar. Thank you for calling that out. I edited my post to correct it. After deactivating and reactivating your accounts, were you able to try updating them again? If so, were you prompted to receive a new SMS code during the update?
Please let me know what you’re seeing.

As far as I can tell, after logging into my Vystar account via a browser, there is no way to revoke Quicken's 3rd party access. When adding Vystar as an account, it never asked for 3rd party access authorization. Do you know how to revoke it?
After deactivating and reactivating your accounts, were you able to try updating them again?
Yes. They have always been able to update.
If so, were you prompted to receive a new SMS code during the update?
Yes. After reactivating, I requested to enter a code twice.

Hi @leishirsute,
Thank you for providing additional details about this issue.
I appreciate you taking the time to follow all the recommended steps. Please note that not all financial institutions offer an option to revoke third-party authorization, so if that option isn’t available, that’s perfectly fine.
You previously mentioned that MFA has always been enabled on your bank’s website and that it hasn’t affected your Quicken accounts. However, have you tried temporarily disabling MFA to see whether it makes a difference when updating your accounts in Quicken? If you haven’t had a chance to try that yet, please do so and let me know whether it changes the behavior.
I look forward to your response!

There is no way to disable it at Vystar.

Hi @leishirsute,
Thanks for following this thread and for your patience. To help rule out the possibility that your Quicken data file is causing the repeated code request, I recommend creating a test file.
Here’s how:
- Go to File > New Quicken File
- Click Ok
- Name the file (e.g., Test).
- Save it in the downloads folder.
- Enter minimal information, just enough to add an account for testing
- Try running a One Step Update in this test file
- Go to Tools > Add Account.
- Select the bank for the deactivated account(s). If prompted, select the connection method.
- Select your financial institution from the results list and click Next.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- When the list of located accounts appears, click on connect.
- Click Finish
If the repeated code request does not occur in the test file, it would indicate that the behavior is likely related to your original data file rather than Quicken or your account settings.
Please let me know the results, and we can determine the next steps from there.

@Quicken Laura That's a good idea. I'll give it a try and report back. Thanks. I suspect this is a Vystar issue but was hoping Quicken had some interaction with their support to minimize the number of times an SMS code is requested for Quicken downloads.

@Quicken Laura For the test datafile created yesterday, Vystar request another SMS code in Quicken today.
