New Auto Loan Shows Zero Instead of Negative Balance

I created a new auto loan account, entered the interest and terms, etc., and those numbers line up. However, the newly-created account shows a zero balance instead of the expected large negative number. I created a corresponding asset account and the equity balances out. I also have a mortgage loan account that works correctly.

This should be very straightforward - what am I doing wrong?

    Never mind, Gemini AI said it was because the opening balance register entry had a future date.
