Payee name is changing when downloading transactions - Windows
Some, not all, payee names are changing names when I download transactions from a bank or credit card. I do not have any renaming rules set… I spoke to Quicken support and they don't have an answer to the problem. Thay suggested making a copy of the file and see if it fixes the problem. That doesn't sound like a solution. They don't have a clue what is causing the issue. They keep pointing to a possible corrupted file and that is why they suggested making a copy and seeing is that works. Id you are just making a copy, how does that fix a currupted file? Has anyone had this issue and possibly been able to resolve it without making a copy of the file? Also, when I hit the dropdown menu for the downloaded transaction, it askes if I want to revert to the original payee. That kind of tells me that Quicken is the issue. This is a Windows machine.
PS I originally posted it in the MAC discussion by mistake.

I don't believe this is a file corruption. It happens to me and probably most users for certain payees. My guess is that Quicken has a vast collection of payees in some database and a set of matching rules and logic where if some downloaded payee name comes close to it, it makes a decision to change/match it.
Of course you can control that via Edit menu > Preferences > Downloaded transactions > Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee - you can uncheck the box if you like. Along with that you can also take advantage of renaming rules and memorized payee list which should significantly improve your experience over time.
