Quicken will not update to Release R66.28 - quickenPatch needs administrative privileges
Is it just me?
Quicken has an update available, to Quicken Classic Business & Personal, for Windows. New version is Release R66.28 (Version R66.28 HF4(Mar, 2026)). Okay, no problem. Like usual, I indicate I want to install it. It downloads, but there's an error message displayed:
"An error occurred
quickenPatch needs administrative privileges to update Quicken. You can do this one of two ways:
1. When prompted, enter an administrator's user name and password.
2. In Windows Explorer right click quickenPatch.exe and click "Run as Administrator.""
Okay, since I'm never prompted for a user name and password, I select Option #2. I find quickenPatch.exe, right click, and Run as Administrator. User Account Control = Yes.
Error displays:
"An error occurred
Unable to check for updates, the server file failed to load."
There's a "Show details" button. But when I select it, no details are shown. Nothing happens. And no update is ever applied.
Has anyone else experienced this and, if you have, were you able to eventually apply the update?

I think I've figured this out. Well, sort of. Something has got hosed up with respect to my account on Windows 11. I found a means of activating the hidden Windows 11 Administrative account, logged in to that, ran Quicken, applied the update (it worked, just like normal), then logged out and back in under my normal account.
So, now I've got my Quicken updated.
And I've got some weird policy issues to work out, with my current account on this Windows laptop.
For the time being, I'm good. Hopefully I'll figure out the problem with Windows 11 before the next Quicken update arrives. For the time being, I'm considering this issue with Quicken is "Resolved".

Thanks, @miklk, for posting that link. As it happens, I was able to get the update done, by means of the normally hidden Windows Administrator account.
In the future, however, when a new update is available, is it likely that the full patch for that update could be installed without me having to go in through that Administrator account, again?
