When in a register, could it not be possible to have a button there that when clicked allowed the user to jump straight to today instead of having to endlessly scroll?

There are two very simple ways to go to Today in the register:

Assuming the register is sorted by date ascending, on a PC use keyboard shortcut CTRL + End. This is a Windows function that takes you to the bottom of the workspace and it works well in Quicken.
Use keyboard shortcut for Go to Date (CTRL + G), click calendar icon > Today > OK.

#1 is the easiest.
