Bank of America - reauthorization - no error but looks weird...?

I've read through all of the posts about errors reauthorizing.

I just got the message this morning and reauthorized five accounts. One has multiple 'placeholders' which I really never understand, so I'll take a look at those.

However, the view I now get for my Merrill Edge CMA is not a register - it's like a dashboard. Any idea why this changed or how I get back to my normal view? The other four accounts look as they always did.

Seems like every week, there is some new adventure in Quicken… I could really use a boring week.

Hi @sjtideman,

Thanks for reaching out to the Quicken Community.

It appears that during the authorization process, the account may have been changed from Complete View to Simple View. I recommend reviewing the account settings in Quicken by following these steps:

Go to Tools > Account List
Locate the account in question
Click Edit
In the General tab, select Complete - Positions and Transactions
A pop-up message will appear click Yes
Then click OK

After completing these steps, open the account again and the register should appear.

Thank you Carlos.

Unfortunately, it does not let me change it. There is a blue link "Why can't I change the tracking method?" This is discussed on another thread where the poster explained that B of A is now only offering "Simple" tracking, but supposedly Merrill is offering Complete… not sure why it still won't let me change it. Any other thoughts?

Thanks for your reply and for letting me know. To better understand the issue, let me ask you a few questions:

Is the option grayed out, as shown in the image below?
If so, is the Financial Institution showing on the right-hand side Bank of America or Merrill Lynch?
What is the connection type showing on the General screen?
Are the other investment accounts that are working properly using the same connection type and showing the same financial institution?
Is the affected account a Brokerage, IRA, or 401(k)?

Yes, the accounts that look right also say Express Web Connect but they don't say Simple Investing. They do also say Merrill Lynch Investments.

The 'weird' account is a brokerage account, the two that are working are IRAs.

I tried deactivating and reactivating just that one account, but it still shows the same way as what I posted above.

Thanks for your reply and for sharing the screenshot, it is very helpful.

Before proceeding with any troubleshooting steps, I recommend creating a backup file. I also suggest disconnecting the account and then adding it again as a new account to see how it is detected in Quicken.

To deactivate an account:

Select the Tools menu and choose Account List
In the Account List, select the account you want to deactivate, then click Edit
In the Account Details window, select the Online Services tab
Click Deactivate next to the service you want to disable
Click Yes to confirm

To add the account again as new:

Go to Tools > Add Account
Select the financial institution for the deactivated account(s)
If prompted, select the appropriate connection method
Enter your credentials and click Connect
When the list of found accounts appears, select Add next to each account you want to reactivate
Click Next, then Done on the final prompt

I had already tried this - see my reply at 10:42. It did not change anything, unfortunately.

@sjtideman thanks for following up and for trying the steps above.

The Cash Management Account (CMA) is often similar to a checking account, but it may appear in Quicken as an investment account due to the way Merrill Lynch sends the data.

For this account, it appears that only the Simple View option is available. As a workaround, I suggest trying the following steps:

Go to Tools > Account List
Locate the account in question
Click Edit
In the General tab, click Yes next to Show cash in a checking account
Click OK

After completing these steps, a separate cash account should appear with the same name as the brokerage account, but with “-Cash” added at the end. This account is usually located in the Banking section.
