Change in Credit Card Balance Column—Quicken for Mac

Has anyone noticed a change in the credit card balance column after the last Quicken for Mac update? My Balance column is no longer matching my credit card balance. Rather, amounts put in the Charge column are now being SUBTRACTED rather than ADDED to the Balance column. When I reconcile, my actual balance shows up in the dialog box, but it is not reflected in the Balance column. I have changed none of the columns since 2014, so I know it's nothing I did! I have tried calling Quicken help, but to no avail. And there doesn't seem to be a way to talk to a senior advisor or someone who would give an answer other than "adjust your balance." Thanks.

I have the same problem…can’t reconcile against paper statements since last update. I manually enter transactions. I have had to adjust the balance. It seems to be related to transfers in one account.

There is no issue with reconciling—the account reconciles fine and the "Reconcile Account" dialog box shows up with the correct Ending Balance (matching what I see from my CapitalOne account online). It's the Balance column that has been misbehaving—that one doesn't match. The Charges are being SUBTRACTED from the Balance, rather than being ADDED to it! If you reread my original post, I think I state the problem clearly. See the screenshot for "evidence."

Note: the Checking register has Payment & Deposit columns, and the balance there subtracts the "payment" from the balance. The Charge column in the credit card register is acting in the same manner, when that Charge column should be ADDED to the Balance, rather than being subtracted as in the check register.

I haven't seen a change in any of my credit card accounts, they're all working as expected.

If you have multiple credit card accounts, is this affecting all of them or just one?

It's possible you have a positive balance on your card rather than the usual negative balance; that would cause charges to reduce the balance rather than increase it. Does the balance have a "-" sign in front of it in the register and the account sidebar? And what color are the numbers in the Balance column - normally they should be red. If they are black (or white in Dark mode) then that's a positive balance.

Are you sure that your credit card account register still is correctly sorted by Date and not filtered in any way? To sort a register by a column click the column title, e.g., Date. Click again to toggle the sort order from ascending to descending and back.

Check to make sure that there are no unexpected Balance Adjustment transactions anywhere in your register. If so, delete them and see if that resolves the issue.
Also check that your account register's Opening Balance transaction hasn't been changed. If it has, find what the correct opening balance transaction amount should be, edit the transaction's amount and see if that resolves the issue.

If you want to look at the screenshot I attached to my message above, you'll see what I see. And—believe me—I fully understand what it should be and should look like. Nothing has changed in the accounts since 2014—except for updates to Quicken. This change happened after the last update.

I only have one active credit account, but another one, which I use rarely, shows the same anomalies.

I wish the answers here would stop blaming the change on something I did. I have made no physical changes to the account for years. I only enter transactions, reconcile, etc. I haven't even changed the columns for years.

Why do people keep thinking it's something I did! It is not. Sorry, but I get tired of repeating that nothing has changed on my Quicken since 2014. Until the last week, the balance in the credit card account matched the amount that is shown when I reconcile.

I guess I'm just going to have to live with it and hope that the next update corrects the issue.
