Missing runtime.dat file

Looking into the standard location for runtime.dat (.\Quicken\Inet) I find the file is gone and any restart of Quicken does not restore the file. The initial behavior I am seeing is the Quicken One Step Update (OSU) successfully downloads transactions but fails to display specific accounts on the summary screen. I am running Classic v. R67.10. Thoughts?

mystery solved, took a good piece of advice and looked in c:\ProgramData, there is a Quicken folder in there in which is an Inet folder which has the runtime.dat of interest. Whacked that file, re-ran the OSU, boom fixed, thank you all.

Yep that fixed it for me too. I ran OSU twice, just for good measure, to make sure it stuck. All good.. Thanks @mallengold!

This runtime.dat is specific to the QDF file name. There are / should be subfolders in \inet for each data file you actively use.

For example, my QDF file is called UKR.QDF, so there's an \Inet\Ukr subfolder …

Can you show us an image snapshot of what you're seeing in the OSU Summary page?

@mallengold I'm seeing the same thing. After OSU runs the summary screen excludes Wells Fargo, Raymond James, and Fidelity. It seems to have started a few days ago. Well after I updated to the latest version.

Thanks Chuck, then I'm not losing my mind, I started seeing the very same last Friday which led me down a deep rabbit hole. It strikes me as odd that no one else is takling about this, there are no posts on the topic at all as far as I can find.

No screenshot needed, that directory is empty, and as far as I can tell Quicken is supposed to populate this directory upon starting which does not happen in my case.

Since deleting runtime.dat and restarting Quicken, have you run an OSU?
What other filename-based subfolders do you have in \inet? The folder name may not always be exactly equal to the QDF file name.

successful OSU although it does not show in the summary that Wells Fargo successfully updated even those new transactions did download, hence this investigation

Sorry to jump in. Just to clarify, the runtime.dat file is in the INET folder under C:\<user>\ProgramData\Quicken\Inet\<qdatafile> (like UKR has above in the screen grab).

I have an INET under .\Documents\Quicken and it's empty.

My runtime.dat file is dated with the date/time stamp from my last OSU run, earlier today.

I've got none of this and I am under the impression a Quicken restart should recreate these file structures but it doesn't.

@mallengold The Program Data folder of which Quicken\Inet is a subfolder is hidden from view by default. The option to unhide it or show hidden items needs to be enabled in File Explorer. Restarting Quicken won't unhide the folder and its contents.

For future use, you can also type %programdata% or %appdata% in the path bar in File Explorer. No need to show hidden or alter options. %appdata% takes you to ./appdata/roaming.

If you do change "options", make sure you change them back.
