Quick fill rules (Q Mac)

Quicken Classic Premier for Mac:

The so-called "Quick Fill" rules are difficult to use. I've tried repeatedly to create automatic category and tag entries in my bank or credit card statements by following the set-up prompts, and even talked to Support several times. Proper naming was one cause that got corrected. Otherwise, some QF entries work OK; others do not - repeatedly.

The "Quick Fill" portion of Payees and Rules is not at all user-friendly.

Thank you for bringing this up in the Community.

We do have a Help Article that goes over QuickFill Rules. Worth taking a look at.

As for these not working, a number of things could be causing this. Quicken automatically creates a QuickFill rule whenever you edit a category in the account register. In the future, Quicken will default to this category when you download transactions or select the same payee when editing a transaction.

Control whether QuickFill rules are automatically created

1. Go to Quicken → Settings.
2. Select the Register tab.
3. Check or uncheck the Automatically create rule... checkbox to turn on or off automatically creating a QuickFill rule when editing a transaction.
4. Click on the drop-down to control whether only the Category field is saved or All fields including category, tags, memo, and amount fields are saved.

I have some follow-up questions for you as well:

• Where is your data file located?
• Is your file being backed up/synced by any third-party services like iCloud, BackBlaze, or Norton?
• How long has this issue been happening?
  • Has it ever worked properly?
• Have you checked your QuickFill Rules to make sure they are set up with the categories you would like applied?
• Have you verified that there is only one QuickFill Rule assigned for the Payees that are having issues?
  • If there is more than one QuickFill Rule, as you can see in the image below, Quicken will not always know which one to apply.
