Negative Security Values in the Register (how to remove)

Quicken Deluxe R67.10 on Windows 11

One of my investment accounts (set to show cash in a checking account), has a negative security value of -$154,286. in the register. In the portfolio view, there are no holdings. Cash is shown correctly in the checking account. Ending balance in the account bar is correct but the net worth (in the portfolio value screen on the home page) shows assets short that amount. I read about changing BoughtX transactions to Bought but it won't let me do it. Is there a way to fix it with a few adjustment entries? Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out to the Quicken Community.

Since the Portfolio view does not show any Holdings, I suggest sorting the investment account register by Security. To do this, click on the Security column header. A blue arrow should appear next to the column name, which will help identify any securities that may be showing a negative share balance.

Once you identify the affected securities, we can review the transaction history for duplicate or missing transactions. If needed, you can also enter a Share Balance Adjustment.

To enter a Share Balance Adjustment:

1. Click the gear icon on the right-hand side of the account register.
2. Select Update Share Balance.
3. Choose a date. I recommend using a prior date, as shown in the screenshot below.
4. Select the security you want to adjust.
5. Enter the correct number of shares.
6. If a security is showing a negative balance but you do not actually hold any shares, enter 0 as the share balance.
7. Click OK.
