Sync from Desktop iMac to the cloud

Once I turn on Sync, does this happen automatically? If so when?

Do I have to quit my desktop application in order to sync?

Do I actually have to select sync manually (Sync to Mobile)?

Does it happen when I update accounts?

There is quite a bit of information on Web sync and cloud sync but nothing about if it happens automatically. My iPad app is always out of date even though I sign in.

• When you initially turn on Sync, it will perform an initial sync automatically.

Do I have to quit my desktop application in order to sync? 

• It does NOT automatically sync when you Quit the program. That wouldn't be a great idea.

Do I actually have to select sync manually (Sync to Mobile)?

• Syncing manually is fine, but only really needed if you manually updated aspects of your program** and didn't update accounts. A manual sync will force those manual changes into the cloud.

Does it happen when I update accounts?

• When you update your accounts, it is automatically synced as part of the update process. For most users, simply doing this is enough to keep the cloud version up to date. That is what I just did for the screenshots of a friend's file I manage included below.

**: It isn't just transactions that get synced, but also any categories & tags you add/modify/delete, scheduled transactions, etc.

On the desktop version, you can go into Settings and see when each file was last synced to Mobile. You can also see in the mobile app when it was last synced with the cloud. That might help you figure out if one is always out of date.
