Checking balance changed to negative amount.

I am on version r68.25 running on Windows 11. Today when I signed on to Quicken, I noticed the balance in my checking account shoed as a negative amount. i downloaded transactions but this did not correct the balance. As i looked into past history in the register, I found that in August 2016 the balance turned negative. it looks as though an entry (deposit) from that time that had been there (since the balance was always correct until now), is no longer there. All other accounts look to be in order. I can't understand why an entry from 10 years ago would suddenly delete? Any ideas?

Thanks for reaching out to the Quicken Community.

Transactions that were entered years ago generally should not disappear on their own.

I suggest confirming that the Sort Order in your account register is set to Date by clicking the Date column header. Also, click the Reset button at the top of the register to ensure no filters are applied.

If the issue persists, I have a few questions to help narrow down the cause:

• Have you recently deleted any transactions?
• Have you tried restoring a backup from before the transaction went missing?
• Have you validated your data file?

If you haven't done so already, I recommend running a validation. Before doing so, I suggest creating a backup of your Quicken data file.

To validate your file:

• Go to File > Validate and Repair File...
• In the Validate and Repair window, confirm that the correct data file is selected.
• Select Validate file.
• Leave all other options unchecked (do not select Rebuild investing lots or Copy file).
• Click OK to begin the validation.

• When the process is complete, Quicken will open a log file named DATA_LOG.TXT.

Please review the log for messages such as:

• Damaged category list
• Invalid transaction detected
• Deleted damaged payee or account reference
• Rebuilt investment lots for [security]
• Orphaned transaction removed

These messages may indicate that Quicken found and repaired corruption within the data file.
