Adding Purchases to My Credit Card Account

When I add additional borrowed amounts to my credit card account e.g. bought $20.00 worth of groceries with my card, the entry is being treated as a payment made to the credit card as if it were a refund of $20.00 instead of as a borrowed amount. What am I doing wrong?

Discovered this when I tried to reconcile my purchases to my CC statement and found all of my purchase amounts on the payment side of the reconciliation. Deleted all of the amounts and re-entered them and still they show up as payments to the account.

In this case, your register balance is likely showing as a positive (black) balance, which typically indicates that the system is interpreting the account as having a credit balance, meaning the credit card company may owe you money.

Credit card accounts are designed so that charges increase the amount owed (negative balance), while payments decrease it. If there has been an overpayment or a credit on the account, the balance calculation may temporarily appear inverted.

To better assist you, I'd appreciate it if you could provide the following information:

• When did the account last display the correct balance?
• Do you see any overpayments or adjustments around the time the issue started?
• Are payment transactions showing in the Payment column and charges in the Charge column?

If the Payment and Charge columns are not visible, you can enable them as follows:

1. Open the credit card account register.
2. Click the gear icon at the top of the register.
3. Select Register Columns.

1. Check Charge and Payment.
2. Click Done.
