Missing Categories

I have been using a tax-related category, "Contribution," with several subcategories. However, in Quicken (R68.31, Build: 27.1.68.31), this category does not appear in the list of categories. When I try to create the category "Contribution," I get a message that it already exists. All reports that used this category (Contribution) no longer work.

I assume you have the category list showing hidden categories to be sure it hasn't been checked as hidden? In case there is file corruption, you could try restoring an earlier backup to see if the problem persists there.

I have an earlier backup but do not know how far back should I go. What happens to all the enteries is verious accounts that I have - I am going to loose all that information which includes online payments etc.

Just go far enough until you don't see the problem. You can just open copies without actually restoring the file to see what it shows. Downloaded entries will come back once you restore a file, though I am not clear about bill pay as I don't use it.

Have you tried validating your file?
