New PC & install on new

Old PC fried when lightning hit house. Quicken Classic for Windows 10. Getting new PC with Windows 11. I have daily backups on external hard drive that survived. My Quicken subscription is current. Will I be able to install Quicken Classic on to the new PC from the Quicken website using my current subscription? Would greatly appreciate any advice on how to go about this process?

Hi @Pat U,

I'm sorry to hear about your computer, but I'm glad your Quicken backup was safely stored on your external drive.

Since your Quicken Classic subscription is still active, you can absolutely install Quicken on your new Windows 11 computer using your existing subscription. Once Quicken is installed, you can restore your backup and continue using your data.

To install Quicken on your new PC, I suggest following the steps in this support article:

After Quicken is installed, you can restore your backup from the external drive by following these steps outlined in our support article:

Open Quicken and go to File > View/Restore Backups.
Browse the Local or Online Backups tab to locate your backup file (it will have the .QDF-Backup file extension).
Select the backup file and click Restore Backup.
You'll then have the option to either overwrite the currently open file or create a copy of the backup.
I recommend selecting Create a copy to preserve your current file. Choose a location to save the restored file, give it a unique name, click Save, and then click Yes to open the restored file.

Note: Restoring a backup by overwriting your current file will replace it with the backup, and any changes made since that backup was created will be lost. To avoid accidental data loss, I recommend creating a copy instead of overwriting the existing file.

For the future, you might want an offsite backup, like online dropbox or similar in case the next disaster takes out your onsite backup.,
