I have set up a separate account at US Fidelity Investments to hold Japanese investments, priced in JPY and with cash held as JPY. I am trying to set this up to sync with a Quicken account set to use JPY currency, but so far I am unable to do so. How can I get this to work? I'm using Quicken Classic for Windows and have the latest version. So far:
- I tried going through the Add Account wizard for Fidelity, but I never get the option to set the account currency, so this creates a USD account in Quicken. I cannot prevent the immediate download of transactions, and once there are transactions, I cannot change the Quicken account currency from USD to JPY
- I manually created a new investment/brokerage account in Quicken with Currency set to JPY, then tried to enable this for downloads. Through this process, the Fidelity account with Japanese stocks appears in the list of accounts I can authorize. After I authorize and return to Quicken, it appears in Quicken's list of accounts to add or link. However, when I try to link it to an existing account, my Quicken JPY brokerage account is not in the list, so I cannot select it.
- I tried #2 again after manually adding some of the previous transactions to the Quicken account, but it made no difference. Setting Fidelity Investments as the institution when manually creating the account doesn't help either.
I know Quicken can sync JPY transactions and securities, because it has done so for trades that were in a USD account. But that messes everything up because multi-currency isn't supported in a single account, so these transactions had the JPY amount treated as USD and I was suddenly a paper zillionaire. Which is why I moved the JPY investments to separate Fidelity accounts.
I've gone through the regular troubleshooting steps for an account that doesn't appear in the list - checking account type, validating the Quicken data file, etc. How can I get this sync set up?
