I did something and the 'blue dots' that signify a new transaction have disappeared. How do I restore them?

That's the Status column. To restore it, click menu View > Columns and make sure Status is checkmarked. If still not in view, scroll the register sideways in case it has moved off the side of the screen. You can rearrange the order of columns by dragging and dropping the column header. Also, make sure your register is still sorted by Date by clicking the Date column header. Click it again to reverse the order.
