Weird thing happening here. I have my own personal file, and I have a completely different file (not an account—but a FILE) for managing my mom's finances. Except that they're both in Quicken, there is NO connection between the two.
Often I will enter or download a transaction into one file and shortly after that work on the other file. Many times when moving to the "other" file and then working on downloaded transactions there, Quicken will try to identify them as transactions and categories from the first file, even though there is NO connection between the two files and often the category doesn't even exist in the second file.
For example, I own a rental property. I might enter or download a transaction for category "Rental:electric" and then when I go to my mom's file and download a transaction from the Dollar Store, which I will categorize as "household," Quicken wants to label the category as "rental:electric" even though my mom does not own rental property and that category doesn't even exist in her category list. I can always correct this manually but it's a pain that it happens over and over again.
Any thoughts on why this happens and how to prevent it? The two files are in NO WAY connected and yet Quicken seems to think they are somehow part of the same big picture.
