Orphaned Savings Goals remnants showing when UNCHECKING to show them in the register

Has anyone found a way to clear out orphaned Savings Goals transactions that cause my Account List totals to not match the register totals?

This is affecting 3 of my accounts. When I deselect the "Show Savings Goals in…" option, my account totals in the Account List increase by the amount of a deleted savings goal. These goals were deleted and when they were deleted, it broke this functionality. From what I can tell, there is some orphaned remnant that I can no longer access.

I ended up deleting all my savings goals and my totals are correct, but if I try to add a new savings goal the problem reappears.

Quicken support chat was not able to help at all. They had me try a bunch of things but nothing worked. I tried exporting and re-importing the affected accounts and this DOES remove the remnant BUT it made a huge mess of my transfers and my investing accounts.

Any ideas???

Thanks for the detailed description. I’d like to narrow this down a little, because there are two different ways of removing a Savings Goal, and they leave the underlying data in different states.

Could you clarify a few things about what you actually did?

1. How did you delete the Savings Goal?
   Did you choose the option that completely removes the goal, including its associated account and transactions, or the option that keeps the associated account as a $0 asset account for historical purposes and returns the money to the funding account?
2. After deleting the goal, did its associated account remain in the Account List?
   If so, what was the account balance?
3. What happened to the money that had been allocated to the goal when you deleted it?
   Did it return to the account that originally funded the goal, and did that account's balance increase accordingly?
4. When you say the Account List total increases when “Show Savings Goals in…” is unchecked, could you provide the actual before-and-after balances for one affected account? It would be helpful to know both the register balance and the Account List balance with the option checked and unchecked.
5. Is the difference exactly equal to the amount that had previously been allocated to the deleted Savings Goal?
6. You mentioned that deleting all Savings Goals makes the totals correct, but creating a new Savings Goal causes the problem to return. Does the discrepancy appear as soon as the new goal is created, or only after you contribute money to it?

I'm particularly interested in the first three points, since we need to determine exactly what happened to the Savings Goal account and its transactions when the goal was removed before we can determine whether there is actually an orphaned remnant.
