Downloading Data into an Existing Account

Question

For decades I have had a checking (cash) account with Fidelity which has never downloaded transactions because I didn't want it to.

I tried to start a download but ended up with ALL transactions coming in as new.  Needless to say, I restored my file and didn't try again.

Is there anyway to only have the download start now without bringing in new transactions for the initial download?  Of course, I want any new transactions going forward.

Quicken Classic for Windows does not allow you to limit the date range when updating an account via One Step Update or any connected download method.  It will always import whatever date range the financial institution sends, with no way to restrict it.

What is possible (but only manually)

Option A — Use your bank’s website to export a custom date range (QFX file)

If your bank supports Web Connect (.QFX), you can download a specific date range from the bank’s website and import it manually.

Quicken will then import only the dates in that file.

This is the only way to control date ranges.

Option B — Manually enter older transactions

If you need older history that the bank won’t provide, you can manually enter them.

This is tedious but sometimes necessary.

Another way to accomplish your objective is to mass-delete all the older transactions that you don't want after the download. And then you need to figure out the correct opening balance for the your preferred start date and manually enter/adjust it.

Note: If the downloaded transactions detected and assigned any matching 'Transfer' categories with your other accounts in Quicken, deleting them from the Fidelity checking will also delete them from the other account and cause an imbalance. So sort by the category column to review the categories to make sure there are no Transfers before deleting them.
