Discover to Capital one conversion

Hello Everyone, Last week did conversion. Went to Capital One website, setup account. Downloaded all CD accounts to Quicken Then closed and deleted all Discover accounts Had no issues. Next day when i updated other accounts, Quicken added all the Capital One accounts again with zero balance. It also added all the deleted Discover accounts again I checked the one step update list and it had added another Capital One. I deleted all the added accounts Next day did update again from different account It added all accounts again . I even deleted all the Capital One accounts and added them again. No difference. This has been going on for days. Have Quicken on desktop and laptop No problems with desktop. Did same exact procedure on both computers. No matter what account I update from, (not Capital One ) it keeps adding them. Only solution I can think of is uninstall quicken on laptop and reinstall with data file from desktop. Any suggestion other than that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Thank you for sharing the details of your issue. To better understand what may be causing the issue, could you please provide the following information?

How many accounts are affected?
Where is your Quicken data file located? To check, open Quicken and go to File. At the bottom of the menu, just above the Exit option, the file with the checkmark next to it is the one currently open. Please let me know the full file path shown there.

Have you restored a backup after deleting the accounts?
Have you validated your Quicken file? If you haven't done so already, I suggest trying this to check for potential data file issues.

To validate your Quicken file:

From the menu bar, select File > Validate and Repair File...
In the Validate and Repair window, confirm that the correct file is selected.
Select Validate file.
Leave all other options unchecked. Do not select Rebuild investing lots or Copy file.
Click OK to begin the validation.

Once the process is complete, Quicken will open a log file named DATA_LOG.TXT.

In the log file, look for messages such as:

Damaged category list
Invalid transaction detected
Deleted damaged payee or account reference
Rebuilt investment lots for [security]
Orphaned transaction removed

There are 7 Capital One accounts. C:\usera\all users\2-14-15 . It was restored from backup 2 months ago with new laptop. Everything worked fine All other accounts were perfectly. Old Discover accounts worked fine. Did validate and repair several times

Thanks for your reply. After reviewing my internal tools, I could not find any duplicate accounts connected to Capital One. Before proceeding with any troubleshooting steps, I recommend creating a backup of your Quicken file.

Once the backup has been created, I recommend deleting any duplicate accounts and keeping only the accounts you want to use. If any of the accounts have a zero balance and do not contain any transactions, I suggest deleting those accounts as well.

For the remaining accounts connected to Capital One, deactivate the online services and then reconnect them, making sure to link them to the existing Quicken accounts you want to use.

To deactivate an account:

Select Tools > Account List.
In the Account List, click Show Hidden Accounts if applicable.

Select the account you want to deactivate and click Edit.
In the Account Details window, click the Online Services tab.
Click Deactivate next to the service you want to disable.

Click Yes when prompted to confirm that you want to deactivate the service.

To delete an account:

After creating a backup, select Tools > Account List.
Select the account you want to delete and click Edit.
In the Account Details window, click Delete Account.
Type YES in the Delete Account window, then click OK.

Once you have only the accounts with the correct balances and transaction history, I recommend reconnecting them.

To reconnect the account(s):

Go to Tools > Add Account.
Select the financial institution for the deactivated account(s). If prompted, select the appropriate connection method.
Enter your credentials and click Connect.
When the list of accounts appears, select LINK next to each account you want to reconnect.
Click Next, then Done when prompted.

As explained in original post I have deleted every Capital One account added with zero balance and every Discover account added every night for the past 10 days. They keep reappearing whenever i update any account. I have deleted the Capital One accounts I want to keep and added them again. No difference. The other night I uninstalled Quicken on my laptop and reinstalled. I used the data file from my desktop Quicken , which works fine and still same problem. Tonight I am going to deactivate the Capital One accounts and see what happens when I update from any other account. If nothing happens, I will leave them deactivated. Luckily since they are CD accounts, I only need them active one day a month. I really do not know what else to do.

Thank you for the detailed update and for trying all of those troubleshooting steps. I understand how frustrating it must be to continue seeing the accounts reappear even after deleting them and linking them to the existing Quicken accounts.

If the issue persists after deactivating and reactivating the Capital One accounts, given the nature of the issue and the troubleshooting you’ve already completed, I recommend contacting Quicken Support directly. They can review the issue in more detail, provide any additional troubleshooting steps that may be appropriate, and escalate the case to the appropriate team if necessary.

It just keeps getting worse. As I mentioned in a previous post, I would deactivate all Capital One accounts and see what happens on an update. I am unable to deactivate any of the Capital One accounts. When I go to online services, click on deactivate, the box opens and asks would you like to deactivate, click yes, and nothing happens. The deactivate button lights back up

Final post on this subject. I did an update from the PNC account. It added all the Capital One accounts again with a zero balance, and all the Discover accounts again. I deleted all these 14 accounts again. Went to active Capital One accounts and was able to deactivate all of them. Tried an update from another account, and nothing was added. I give up; whatever the problem is, it won. It works on my desktop. I will set up accounts once a month on laptop, download transactions, then deactivate to next month. Thanks for help. Jim
