Vanguard - Quicken creates duplicate downloads of one mutual fund since July 2025

I have owned shares in the Vanguard S&P 500 Index ETF mutual fund for a few years. When I bought the mutual fund, Quicken named it "Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund ETF Shares."

On July 26, 2025, Quicken created a new name for the fund, Vanguard EFT 500 Index, removed the shares from "Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund ETF Shares," and added them to "Vanguard EFT 500 Index."

Since July 26, 2025, Quicken has created a duplicate transaction for dividends each time, with the exact same shares going to "Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund ETF Shares" and to "Vanguard EFT 500" in Quicken.

Now Quicken wants to create a placeholder to add the shares back to "Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund ETF Shares," but not to remove them from "Vanguard EFT 500."

I cannot find a way to fix this. Has anyone experienced something similar? I'm not sure I could explain this very well over the phone to someone at Quicken.

Thank you for reaching out and for providing those details. I’d like to gather a little more information to help narrow down what may be causing the duplicate transactions.

Do the two securities have different CUSIPs or ticker symbols?
Go to Tools > Security List, select one of the securities, and open Security Details. Please check the Security ID and compare it with the other security.

Is “Matched with online security” enabled for either security?
In the same Edit Security Details window, please check whether the Matched with online security box is checked.

Did Vanguard change the security identifier or name around July 2025?
If you have any information from Vanguard regarding a change to the security around that time, please share it.
Do both securities show the same transactions and transaction history?
This will help determine whether Quicken is treating the same holding as two separate securities.

It is the same security and same ticker symbol. VOO. One is identified as a type "stock," and the other is identified as a type "other." Otherwise they contain the same information.

The box for "Matched with online security" is checked on both. (Is that the problem?)

Vanguard did not change the name or security identifier around July 2025. The name has stayed the same on my Vanguard statements.

Both securities show the same transactions and transaction history.

Thank you for sharing more information. That helps a lot! Since both are trying to use the same ticker symbol, Quicken is getting confused about where to send the data. We can fix this by isolating the duplicate security, cleaning up the history, and removing it. Please try the following steps:

Back up your Quicken file first (Go to File > Copy or Backup File).
Go to Tools > Security List and find the duplicate security (the one listed as "Other"). Click Edit and uncheck "Matched with online security".

While still editing that duplicate security, change its ticker symbol to something like VOO-Dup so it stops competing with the real one.
Leave the correct VOO security (the one listed as "Stock") matched with Vanguard.
Run a One Step Update and verify that new Vanguard transactions download cleanly into the correct security only.
Clean up the history: Go to your account register and look at the transactions for VOO-Dup. For any duplicate transactions since July 2025, delete them. For any older historical transactions that belong to the fund, edit them and change the security name dropdown back to the original Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund ETF Shares. You can sort your transactions by security name to make it easier.
Once the duplicate security has zero transactions attached to it, go back to Tools > Security List, select the duplicate, and click Delete.
