Fractional Leftover Stock Shares

Question

A couple of my investment accounts have minuscule fractional shares left over after downloading data or stock splits.  I have tried EVERYTHING to delete them, including forcing the balance to zero, selling off the small amount, etc.

Quicken help has been entirely useless.  They are just grabbing text out of their manuals and replying with it.  None of it works.  Finally they give up and say I have to delete the account and create it again which I assume will entirely destroy the transaction history.

Is this what Quicken is all about now?  Non-functionality?  Before I start asking if there are any alternative softwares to Quicken, does anyone have a fix for this mess?

@Gary Paukert the only other thing I can think of is to do a "Ctrl-Shift-Z" when in the account register.  This will recalculate the investment transactions.  Once in a while this will fix share issues.

@Gary Paukert then there are three other things you can try (if you haven't done so already).  But before you do, recheck that "Extend share precision" option.

* Use an "Adjust Share Balance" transaction and set the number of shares to zero.
* Edit the final Sold transaction and check the box "Sell all Shares in the account".
* Use a "Shares Removed" transaction to try to remove the .000005 shares.

Thanks.  It was checked, so I unchecked it.  Then tried making an transaction to adjust share balance to zero.  It left me with .000005 shares.  And a placeholder entry for 3.664012 shares.  Maddening.  When I try to sell those shares or zero them out, it gives me a message that I should do two transactions, one to sell the shares that I have, and one to create a short position.  Arrrgghhh.
