transfers between accounts not posted correctly

This has been a problem for a long time.

I have several accounts at Morgan Stanley. Once a month a transfer is made between accounts. These transfers are always made between brokerage accounts and an annuity account.Instead of quicken posting the transfers correctly (transfer between account A to account F) it interprets the downloaded transaction as a transfer from account A, to account C (Cash account) and another transfer from account C to account F. The money ends up in the right place but there is a transaction posted to account C that never happened.

The attached first screenshot shows the transactions quicken posted on account C (Cash account), which was not involved in the transfer.

The second screenshot shows the transactions as reported by Morgan Stanley. Account F (7044) receiving a transfer from account A (5825) and account A sending the transfer to account F. Account C is not involved. There are 2 transfer examples in this screenshot.

The result of all this is quicken ends up with the funds coming and going to the right places but there are extra transactions in the register for my cash account that never happened and can never get reconciled.

@Randy is Account C a linked checking account for Account A? If so that could be a reason why the transfers are being forced to Account C. If Account C is not a linked checking account to Account A, you can always manually change the transfer in Account A from Account C to Account F.

Account C is a linked checking account. I have been manually fixing these transfers but it doesn't seem this should happen, so I posted this problem.

@Randy I think it's by design. Any downloaded cash transaction for an investment account with a linked checking account is automatically sent to the linked checking account.

Quicken used to ask me if these kind of downloaded transactions were transfers, I said yes and the transactions posted correctly. . That stopped several months ago.

I think that could be controled by a separate setting in Quicken -

Edit→Preferences→Transfer detection

Verify that the settings haven't changed.
