- Back up your Quicken file, just in case.
- Download a PDF statement from the Coinbase app on your phone.
- Use AirDrop (or whatever you prefer) to send the statement file to your Mac.
- Upload the statement PDF file or files to your favorite AI. I used Perplexity via their Comet browser. You can upload more than one at a time if you like.
- Supply this prompt. If you're using another AI you may need to tweak it:
Parse the transactions from the provided PDF files and format them into a CSV file with the following specifications:
Column 1: Date formatted as MM/DD/YY
Column 2: Description – Both lines of the Description column, converted from all-caps to mixed case. Be sure to remove any embedded commas.
Column 3: Empty
Column 4: Amount
Column 5: Transaction Type (debit or credit)
Column 6: Category (deduce this from the payee name; e.g., if payee contains 'Turo', use 'Auto:Rental Car')
Remove the column header line – the CSV should start directly with data.
Ensure all transaction items on all pages are included.
Omit any citations or references such as [file:1], [web:2], URLs, or PDF filenames; the CSV file output should include only plain CSV rows.
After preparing the file, perform a reconciliation check: Total the purchase/service-fee entries, then the credit entries, and compare to the statement totals. Report the results to me in the chat, including the new balance.
6. Import the CSV file to Quicken using drag and drop or File / Import / Mint.com File (CSV)…
7. Quicken will create a new account for the imported transactions. Open it, select all the transactions, and drag them to your Coinbase Amex account.
8. Delete the account that Quicken created.
9. If you've entered payment transactions from your bank they will be duplicated with a line like "Ach Payment". Delete the duplicates.
10. Reconcile away!
Please let me know if I left something out or if you have suggestions for improvement.
