backup, importing, does importing automatically transfer

I believe I am going to have to open a backup. In Quicken classic for windows. When you do the backup, on the checking acct you do an import. When there are transfers from the checkbook to a credit card will it automatically do it, or do you have to manually to the transfer in the other account. I am assuming you would have too? thanks.

@Bruce Leavitt I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're restoring a backup and then importing transactions into your checking account, any payment transaction that is properly categorized as a transfer to the credit card account (using a category like [Visa]) should automatically create the matching transaction in the credit card account. You normally would not enter the other side manually unless Quicken fails to recognize it as a transfer.

However, if you are importing transactions from a QIF file, pay special attention to transfers between accounts. A transfer from Checking to a credit card account should normally be recorded as a transfer, not as an expense and a separate payment.

After the import, review a few of the transferred transactions to make sure they are linked to the other account correctly. If the QIF import does not recognize the transfer relationship, you may need to edit the transaction and assign the proper transfer category (for example, [Visa]). If you manually create the matching transaction in the credit card account when the transfer already exists, you could end up with duplicates.

Can you clarify whether you are restoring a Quicken backup file (.QDF) or importing a QIF file?
