Adding Quicken to a new Laptop

Hello, I just purchased a laptop computer with Windows, and I have a few questions about the installation process of Quicken. Since I pay annually for Quicken, can I add the application to my laptop? If so, how is that process done? After the installation is complete, how do I get my data from my desktop PC version of Quicken to the laptop? Finally, when installed, can I use either PC to update Quicken and will the other version update automatically? Thank you!

Thank you for reaching out to the Quicken Community! Yes, you can install Quicken on your new laptop without purchasing another subscription. Your Quicken membership is linked to your Quicken ID, so you can install Quicken on multiple computers.

To get started, I suggest:

On the new laptop, download and install Quicken from here.
Click the corresponding button below to download Quicken for Windows:

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Click Next to get started.
- Click Install on the Ready to install prompt.

When the installation is complete, click Done.
Sign in using the same Quicken ID and password.
Once Quicken is installed, move a copy of your Quicken data file from the old computer to the new laptop, or create a new backup on an external drive. You can use a USB drive. You can follow the steps outlined in our support article.
Open the transferred data file on the new laptop and verify that everything is displaying correctly before making any changes.

You can use either computer, but the two computers will not automatically keep the same data file synchronized. If you make changes or download transactions on one computer, those changes will not automatically appear in the data file on the other computer. The same data file should also not be opened and used on both computers at the same time.

Thank you for the quick response! Sorry, but I have a few more questions. I have downloaded the app and have signed in. I'm at the page asking me to 'Open a data file located on this computer', 'Restore from an external drive' or 'Start over'. I have my data on an external drive and will attach the drive to my laptop and get the file. However, how does the Quicken Cloud backup work? Will this version I am installing on my new laptop have the ability to sync to the Cloud? If the information is in the article, I apologize for the question; I will read it soon. Thank you again!

Quicken Cloud transmits your information between Quicken Desktop, Quicken Mobile, and Quicken on the Web. This means that when you sync your Quicken data file to the Quicken Cloud, you'll have access to your accounts from your phone, tablet, or web browser through Quicken on the Web. Quicken Cloud also allows you to receive alerts for your accounts and edit transactions while you're on the go.

Quicken Cloud is not intended to be used as a backup service. You won't be able to restore your Quicken data from Quicken Cloud, and you can't access Quicken Cloud independently of the Quicken desktop, web, or mobile products. If you're looking for a cloud backup service for Quicken, please see this information about Quicken Online Backup.

A Quicken Cloud account is automatically created when you create a Quicken ID, but you don't have to use it.
