I been reviewing some saved reports and see these show up in the categories list. I've never heard of these or added them myself. I assume Quicken added them. Can anybody tell me what these are and can I just delete them? ACCT_cca ACCT_db0 etc.
@Dave335 I have found that these categories are created after a data file validate is run. They show up in the validate log towards the bottom of the report. I am not sure why they show up in the validate log and then create these categories. I suspect they are the result of process that was ended prematurely by Ctrl-Alt-Del, the Task Manager, or a crash. I have had these categories show up in the Category List and was able to just delete them without issue. If you do delete them, run a data file validate immediately after to verify that they do not get created again.
@Dave335 I would also suggest making a Quicken Copy of your data file. These "rogue" categories could be indicative of data file corruption.
A Quicken Copy does more than simply duplicate your data file. During the copy process, Quicken rebuilds much of the file's internal structure, which can remove certain types of data-file damage and inconsistencies that may develop over time. For this reason, creating a copy is often recommended when troubleshooting unexplained issues such as download problems, missing categories, incorrect reminders, or other unusual behavior. If the problem does not occur in the copied file, it can be a strong indication that the original file had some degree of corruption.
Before creating the data file copy, be sure to first make a backup of your data file.
Create a Quicken Copy
Use the new copied data file as your new ongoing data file.
Thanks for the suggestion. I did call up Quicken support and the tech took a look at it and they were all empty and he said sometimes they just get created and he couldn't tell me exactly why. We went ahead and deleted them and everything worked fine. Today I decided to look that up when I got home again and here's what I found with a google search and it's consistent with what we did and found. I have attached a copy of the image from the search result that explains that they are anomalies leftover from glitches or some transaction downloads that didn't go through clean. They also said to go ahead and delete that and then validate your file again and see if they show up. We didn't validate yesterday so I did run validation today and nothing came up. It said my file was clean and none of those categories were listed at the bottom. Now I know what's up next time I see them.
