I am experiencing the black navigation/tab bar problem associated with CTP-14856, and tonight I was able to reproduce it consistently on a brand-new PC with a fresh Quicken installation.
After restarting Windows and opening Quicken, everything displays normally. The blue navigation tabs (Home, Spending, Bills & Income, Planning, Investing, Property & Debt, Mobile & Web) are all visible.
Quicken then prompts me for my Vault password. I enter the password and select Update Now. One Step Update completes successfully and downloads transactions normally, but immediately afterward a solid black horizontal area appears and hides the blue navigation tabs.
I repeated this after a full Windows restart and got the same result:
- Restart Windows.
- Open Quicken.
- Navigation tabs display normally.
- Enter Vault password and select Update Now.
- One Step Update completes successfully.
- Black bar appears and hides the navigation tabs.
The problem appears to be visual only. Quicken continues working and transactions download successfully. Restarting Quicken restores the tabs temporarily, but running One Step Update causes the problem to return.
I also experimented with View > Show Toolbar. Toggling Show Toolbar changes the position/size of the black area and has sometimes caused the hidden navigation tabs to become visible again. On other occasions, the black strip remains but the tabs are still visible below it.
I had seen this problem once on my previous PC, so it is not unique to this new installation.
Current system/display configuration:
HP Z2 Tower G1i Workstation
Intel Core Ultra 9 285
64 GB DDR5 RAM
Intel integrated graphics
Windows 11 Pro 26H2
3840 x 2160 (4K) native resolution
200% Windows display scaling
60 Hz refresh rate
One other observation that may be relevant: although Windows scaling is set to 200%, Quicken's text and interface elements appear to me to remain approximately the same size they were on my previous computer. Other applications, including ChatGPT, are noticeably enlarged by the 200% Windows scaling setting. I don't know whether Quicken's DPI/scaling behavior is related to the black-bar problem, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
I submitted a Report a Problem to Quicken tonight referencing CTP-14856 with a screenshot and the available Quicken log files.
Hopefully the repeatable sequence above helps narrow down what is triggering the redraw/layout problem.
Screenshots below show four states I observed: (1) normal Toolbar and navigation tabs before Update Now; (2) after Update Now, the black area completely hides the navigation tabs; (3) after turning View > Show Toolbar off, the Toolbar disappears but the black area remains and the navigation tabs become visible; and (4) after turning Show Toolbar back on, the Toolbar returns while the black strip remains between the Toolbar and the navigation tabs.
