Connecting to Third Federal

I noticed my Third Federal downloads were no longer occurring. Online Services was deactivated at some point since the end of July.

I get to the attached screen and the circle just spins. No sign-in screen ever appears even after waiting for five minutes.

I'm able to log on to the Third Federal website directly with no issues.

Thank you for sharing the details of what you’re experiencing. I'd appreciate it if you could share the following information to narrow this down:

Are you trying to reactivate existing accounts, or add new accounts from Third Federal Savings & Loan Assoc?
Where is your Quicken data file located? To check, please open Quicken and go to File. At the bottom of the menu, the file with the check mark next to it is the one currently open. Please let me know the full file path shown there.
Is your file being backed up/ synced by any third-party services like Carbonite, OneDrive, or Backblaze?
Are you using a VPN, firewall, or antivirus software? If so, please let me know which one(s).
Do you have any pending Windows updates, or did you install a Windows update around the time the issue began?

Hello,

This is reactivating an existing account.

The file is located in C:\Users\jerry\Documents\Quicken

The file is backed up by BackBlaze, as has been occurring for years now.

I have a VPN but it's not active. I use Norton for antivirus protection, which is active.

I just noticed the problem in the past couple of days. I believe it's been deactivated for 1-2 months. I expect in that time, there's been a Windows Update along the way. I can't say for certain whether the problem began due to a Windows update or not. There are no pending updates.

Thank you for providing that information. It really helps narrow down the issue.

I’ve seen similar behavior reported by a few other users, but not frequently enough to indicate a widespread issue. I also tested connecting an account with Third Federal Savings & Loan Assoc., and it worked as expected.

At this point, I’d like to determine whether the issue is related to your data file or security software. Please complete the following steps

First, back up your Quicken data file. Then:

Go to File
Select Validate and Repair File
Choose Validate File
Click OK

Once the process is complete, try reactivating the account by going to Tools > Add Account.
Select Third Federal Savings & Loan Assoc. and follow the prompts.

Validating the file can identify and resolve potential data file errors or corruption.

If the issue persists, please temporarily disable Norton’s web/network protection and then try Set Up Now or Reactivate again.

Please let me know how these steps go, including whether the issue occurs with Norton temporarily disabled.

Thank you for trying that, @jerrylcanterbury.

Could you please test the account in a new Quicken data file? This will help us determine whether the issue is specific to your existing file.

Note: Creating a test file will not affect your existing data file. However, you may want to create a backup before proceeding.

NEW FILE

Choose File menu > New Quicken File.
Select New Quicken File.
Click OK.
In the File name field, enter the name of the new file then click Save (Don't use any of these characters: * ? < > | " : \ / (asterisk, question mark, left and right angle bracket, pipe, straight quotation marks, colon, BACKSLASH, FORWARD SLASH). Also, don't add the .qdf extension; Quicken does that for you).
Sign in with your Quicken ID. If you are prompted to create a Quicken ID but already have one, click Sign In under the Create Account prompt.
Select if you want to use Mobile.
Click Add Account to start adding accounts to the new file.

Once you’ve completed the test, please let me know the results, including whether you encounter the same issue in the new file.

Doing this in the new test file brought me successfully to a Third Federal signin screen. I didn't proceed beyond that as I already got further than I had previously.

For clarity, in my regular file, I was not adding an account; I was trying to reenable Transaction Download, since the account still exists and I don't want to lose my old data.

Laura, the test gave me a clue.

I went into my own Third Federal account and removed Third Federal as the financial institution.

I then went through the Online Services setup from scratch, and entered Third Federal as the financial institution there.

Then the Signin screen was displayed, and I proceeded successfully from there.

So I'm good now, this request can be closed.
