Can't link a new Macys CC to an existing account

Macy's recently replaced my existing cc with a Macys Amex card that has a new number. My old account has many years of history so I want to link the new card to the old account register. I've done this with other cards before, but can't get it done here.

I started by going to "add an account" and chose "Macys". Quicken found both the old and new accounts on the Macys site. I chose "don't add to Quicken" for the old account and then "link to an existing account" for the new one. Problem is, instead of bringing up a drop-down with all credit card accounts for me to select from, it only provides a small number of old, unused (closed, but still available in quicken for historical purposes) accounts for selection.

I tried again, but this time deactivated the online services for the old account first. Same problem. I can't figure out why its not presenting the drop down list with all accounts for selection.

Any ideas?

@mrzookie did you deactivate the Macy's Amex card before trying to link the new card? Also, since both card accounts are available for linking, I would have linked the old card account and added the new. If only the new one was available, then I would have linked it to the existing.

Also, since, both cards were available to connect with Quicken, I would verify that the cards were the same type of credit card. Macy's offers two types of credit cards, a Macy's store card issued by Citibank, and a Macy's Amex card.

Thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions:

1 - The old card was Macys Citibank. It was replaced by with Macy's AMEX.

2 - My preference is to link the new to the old account. I should be able to do that. I tried 2 ways - first without deactivating the Citi card, then WITH deactivating it. Both times I got the same result.

@mrzookie the Macy's Citibank card account is the existing account so that should be matched to the existing account on Quicken. The Macy's Amex card is the new card account and should be set up as new. You shouldn't connect the new card account (Amex) to the existing card account (Citibank) on Quicken. They are two totally different credit card accounts. One really doesn't replace the other. They can be open and active at the same time.
