Does anyone know how Quicken downloads direct investing accounts since they potentially hold 100s, if not 1000s, of individual stocks? Is each stock downloaded, or is consolidated tracking information downloaded, like it is for a mutual fund or ETF?
Hi @krose,
Thanks for reaching out!
Quicken can track investment accounts in two different ways, depending on the tracking method selected and the information provided by the financial institution.
If your brokerage account holds hundreds of individual stocks, Quicken may track the positions of those individual securities. However, the specific information downloaded depends on the financial institution's data integration and the type of information it makes available to Quicken.
For more details about these two tracking methods, I recommend reviewing the following support article:
https://www.quicken.com/support/investment-tracking-methods-simple-vs-complete-detailed/ It's also worth distinguishing between tracking current positions and maintaining a complete transaction history. For example, Quicken may still track your current holdings even if you purchased them more than 90 days ago. However, some financial institutions limit how far back transaction downloads go. If older transactions aren't available for download, your current positions may still be available, but your historical transaction records may be incomplete.
I hope this helps clarify how Quicken handles investment account data!
