Quicken Crashes when Customizing Reports

Quicken crashes when I click the gear button to customize any report. It does this with any report, and crashes nearly immediately with no error messages, etc presented. This is on Quicken Classic for Windows on Windows 11 Pro (64 bit) . The crashes coincide with an error in the event log for qw.exe that says a fault occurred in the .NET runtime, in clr.dll with exception code 0xc0000005. The crashes also coincide with an error like: DbC EnsureViolation '(0)' in QWIN_SetButtonLook (utilbtn.c @Line # 2728.) in the qw.log file.

@Charles George Since the crash occurs specifically when opening the report customization window for any report, this sounds less like data corruption within a specific report and more like a problem with the Quicken program environment itself.

A few things you might try:

Run a data file validate, and super validate
Update Windows and install any available .NET Runtime updates.
Update to the latest Quicken release (currently R69.53)
Test in a newly created Quicken data file (File→New Quicken File).
- If report customization works there, the issue could be related to the original data file.
- If it crashes in both files, that would point more toward the Quicken installation or Windows environment.
Reinstall the Quicken program
If the problem continues, contact Quicken Support. https://www.quicken.com/support/search-opt

Validate

Select File → Validate and Repair File.
Check Validate File.
Click OK and review the validation log when it finishes.

Super Validate

Hold down Ctrl + Shift while selecting File → Validate and Repair File.
Check Super Validate File.
Click OK and review the log for any errors found or repaired.

Quicken Install Program

Download the current installer from https://www.quicken.com/download
Close Quicken.
Run the installer and install Quicken over your existing installation.
Restart Windows and test the report customization function again.

Whenever you do any type of troubleshooting please make sure to backup your data file first.

I checked windows update, there was a .NET update waiting on a restart, after a crash on startup, then I retried successfully, and then the customize report button started working again. Thank you.
