Lost Renaming Rules with Upgrade

I just upgraded to R69.53 in Windows and my downloaded credit card transactions are a mess. It looks like the software is no longer applying any renaming rules.

Example:

Payee "TST* Cafe Services - Tevawest Pa" FOR YEARS has been auto-renamed as "Tst Cafe Services" with an assigned category of Dining. Now it wants me to accept "TST* Cafe Services - Tevawest Pa" and manually enter a category.

This is happening across multiple accounts with different payees.

I have changed no settings

@BarryMo the other settings to check is Edit→Preferences→Data Entry and Quickfill

@BarryMo Since this began immediately after updating to R69.53, it's worth determining whether Quicken has stopped applying all renaming rules or only specific ones. Check Tools → Renaming Rules to confirm the affected rules still exist and that the downloaded payee text has not changed. If the rules appear correct, I would run Validate (File → Validate and Repair File) and test whether a newly created renaming rule works. If no renaming rules are being applied across multiple accounts, that could indicate either data file corruption or a newly introduced issue in the current release.

I need to reframe this issue. For the example above, I actually do not have a renaming rule and was relying on Quicken's "automatically apply quickens suggested name to payee windows" feature. So why is this no longer working?

Since you're relying on Quicken's "Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee" feature rather than your own Renaming Rules, I'd focus on that instead. First, verify that Edit → Preferences → Downloaded Transactions still has that option enabled. If it does, are all downloaded transactions now retaining the full downloaded payee name, or only certain merchants? If this behavior started immediately after updating to R69.53 and is affecting multiple accounts and multiple payees, it may indicate either a data-file issue (worth testing with Validate) or a change in the current release that has affected Quicken's payee recognition process.

The option is enabled. It impacted 2 credit cards and multiple merchants per credit card. It started immediately after updating to R69.53. I will do a back-up and a validate.

Same thing happening here. I haven't reconciled my credit cards for a few months and just noticed this. It's been happening since July. Many (maybe all?) of the payee names are no longer being renamed by Quicken like they were in the past. This is for payees that do NOT have renaming rules defined.

As an example, within the credit card register, if I right click on a payee transaction before July, it will show an option to revert to the name that is now coming through untouched since July. Obviously, this impacts the automatic categorization with payee matching, so now all these transactions are being treated as new payees by Quicken. I have changed no options and "Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee" is checked.

What release are you on? I usually lag way behind on accepting new releases so it is quite possible this could be be from a July release.

Right now, I'm on R69.53, same as you I think.

I should also mention I hadn't downloaded new credit card transactions in awhile.🙄
