You can go ahead and put the code in now and it will add a year to the time you have remaining. You don't have to wait until your current subscription runs out, you don't lose any time off your current sub.
Edit: Unless you're changing subscription levels; I'm not precisely sure what happens in that case. But the code you purchased a week ago will still be good in two weeks so if you just want to wait until then it won't be an issue.
