Download from Two Different AmEx Accounts

Question

My wife and I both have our own AmEx accounts that we log into.  However, I have not been able to figure out how to be able to download card transactions from both accounts at the same time.  If I set up the download for my AmEx account, I cannot set up downloads for her account, and vice versa.  Is this even possible in Quicken Classic for Windows?

The behavior you described is a known limitation with American Express. If you need to connect accounts that use different login credentials, you’ll need to use the American Express – Delegate connection option.

To do this, please follow these steps:

* Back up your Quicken data file before making any changes.
* Deactivate the accounts you need to reconnect.
* Go to Tools > Add Account
* Search for and select American Express – Delegate.

5. Follow the prompts and carefully link your account with the correct nickname in Quicken.

We both are authorized to use one another's cards and accounts.  Is that the problem?

@MarkLinebarger It should be possible to have multiple AmEx logins in the same Quicken data file. Before troubleshooting further, can you clarify whether these are two completely separate American Express accounts with different primary cardholders, or whether one of you is an authorized/additional cardholder on the other's account?

If they are separate primary accounts, Quicken should generally be able to support both logins. If one account is an authorized-user/delegate relationship, the setup may need to use a different AmEx financial institution entry for that cardholder.

If you've already confirmed they are separate primary accounts and Quicken is forcing one login to replace the other, I'd recommend contacting Quicken Support. They can review the EWC+ authorization records and determine whether this is an AmEx connection issue or something specific to the Quicken file. As fellow users here on the forum, we don't have visibility into that backend connection data.
