Unable to add a new account--goes into a loop at the end of setup

I tried adding a new loan. It had to be offline since the specific finance company was not found. I added all the info and then arrived at the "Quicken will add a reminder" screen. Click Next, edited to Loan remoinder details—click Done—but arrivedback the screen prior—the only option is click Next. This just brings me back to the details screen. Clicking X or Cancel gives the message, "Are you sure you want to cancel and remove account details. I don't, but there's no other option. The account that had shown up is then removed. I'm using Quicken Classic Deluxe. R69.53 Build 27.1.69.53

addendum: I located [Ticket #12656943 - CTP-19109] with a Google search—dated 10/29/26. The ticket describes freezing. However, the fix provided instructs me to add an account through the Tools menu, Add Account. I did this, but I still encounter the same loop. I don't encounter program freezing, but I'm unable to save the account I just attempted to enter.

@Bill Neilan After you are done with the loan details and click Done, do not click Next. Wait until the process is complete and presents the next screen, "Tracking your net worth?". Proceed with the setup until you get the completion screen, and then click the "Finish" button.

I will try this. In the previous attempts, there was nothing to indicate that anything was in progress after clicking the 'Done' button. How long would this normally take?

It does take a while. You are right; there is nothing to indicate that anything is in progress, and at times it looks like the process has stalled. But after clicking "Done", it will eventually move to the next screen. I have done it several times, and sometimes it can take up to 10 seconds.

I underestimated the time it takes. I just tried it again, and it took about 20 seconds to change to the next screen after clicking "Done".

Since you indicate that you've waited significantly longer and the next screen never appears, something is likely preventing the loan setup wizard from completing that transition.

A couple of troubleshooting steps to try:

Validate and Repair
- Create a backup.
- Run File → Validate and Repair File > Validate File.
- Review the DATA_LOG for any reported errors.
- Restart Quicken and try the setup again.
Test in a New File
- Create a new test file.
- Attempt to create a simple manual loan.
- If the setup completes normally in the test file, the issue is likely related to the original data file.
- If the same behavior occurs in the test file, it may point to a problem with the current Quicken installation or release.

Also check to see if the unsuccessful loan setup attempts created a partial payment reminder or loan setup -

Loan Payment Reminder
- Open Tools → Manage Bill & Income Reminders.
- Check whether a loan payment reminder was created despite the setup not completing.
- If multiple setup attempts have been made, look for duplicate reminders.
- Consider deleting any reminders created during failed setup attempts before trying again.
Partially Created Loan Account
- Open Tools → Account List.
- Check both visible and hidden accounts.
- Look for a loan account that may have been partially created during a previous setup attempt.
- If found, make a backup and consider removing it before attempting the setup again.

If so, they might be interfering with the current loan setup and should be deleted.

Be sure to make a backup of your data file before attempting any troubleshooting steps.
