Sub-Category Shows in Budget Category Totals even when unselected

Just as the title implies.

I have a credit card sub-category under my Financial category to track when I pay my CC each month. For budgeting purposes I don't want that tracked in the current budget. However, it does show as a debit for that month's Financial category total - but it's unselected in the budget "Edit" and "Select Categories" window for selecting categories.

How do I get around that?

That is the way it works: If you have a parent category selected to monitor in a budget, it will include ALL the sub category totals, even if you have chosen to not monitor each one.

I recall some discussion about the logic of this: some people wanted the roll up behavior (like we are seeing), whereas some people wanted the budget to look more like a report summing up what they had chosen.
