Archiving Old Investment Accounts

My Quicken file has become very slow. I have 32 years of data that I never archived, which probably has something to do with it. I tried archiving a closed investment account for starters, but the program crashed and indicated that I had a catastrophic failure. Fortunately I was able to restore a recent backup. I'm still interested in archiving ancient data, but I'm worried about the stability of the program. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
